Fumika is a lovely person and you honestly couldn't wish for a nicer host. For our tour, she came and met us at our hotel near Tokyo Dome. This was great as we arrived in Tokyo late the night before so hadn't gotten our bearings yet. She also helped us with getting our JR pass sorted out.
Our day was spent visiting various places in Harajuku and Shibuya. First place up was the Meiji shrine. This is a beautiful spot and we were luck to see several weddings taking place there in traditional clothing. Next up was wandering though Takeshita Street. Lots of crazy clothing stores here and plenty of people watching to be done. After that we went to Maisen for lunch. We were lucky because the wait for a table was relatively short. Best. Tonkatsu. Ever... A little expensive perhaps but worth splurging on. After lunch we went around Shibuya. If you like window shopping high end clothing stores, you will be in heaven.
Following a quick stroll though a love hotel area we got the Lion Cafe. Any description I could give of this place would be inadequate. Think "cafe crossed with Vienese music hall as filmed by Sofia Coppola".
At the end of the day, Fumika took us back to the train station and pointed us in the right direction for the line we needed to catch.
Take my advice and don't hesitate to go on a tour with Fumika!
Lots of Tokyo locals know what to do in Tokyo. Asking local people is the best way to discover the perfect travel destination!
