Tsukiji Fish Market is the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world!! You can enjoy very active market:D You need a numbered ticket to see tuna auctions, the exciting spectacle. If you can arrive the market by 4:30am, I can guide it to you. There is no public transportation working such early morning. If you stay with in 10km from the market, I can pick you up by car for additional \5,000 per a group! Or you can still enjoy the market without tuna auctions after 7am.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our tours with Mariko. She gave us a great tour of the fish market; she also had some great recommendation for food. Super helpful, and super nice.
While Mariko was busy on the day we wanted to visit Tsukiji, my partner and I were lucky enough to be shown through the tuna auction and market by her friend Guts. He did a great job explaining the process to us, and he showed us through the 'outer inner' market afterward which was great. Extra credit to Guts for meeting us at 3:30am after working until 11pm the night before!! We probably won't make the early morning effort for the tuna auction again - it didn't quite live up to the expectations we had - however this really had nothing to do with Guts' service. I would certainly recommend having Guts or Mariko as a guide for Tsukiji Fish Market in general - just don't view the tuna auction as a 'make or break'. They can also show you to the amazing sushi place (complete with a 2.5hr line)!
Mariko made it very easy for us to visit Tsukiji fish market. She helped us get a front seat row for the tuna auctions, and then showed us around the inner and outer markets ( we didn't have to plan, just followed her lead). Best of all was the sushi restaurant - great toro sushi. Thanks, Mariko.
Thanks Mariko for a great tour. Your good guidance through the market and tips and stories of the market definitely made it more worthwhile. Much appreciated.
Mariko couldn't make it, but her friend Guts did a great job. You could go alone, but it was so worth it to have someone who knows it well. He had a book to explain the goings-on during the wait-- and afterward quickly whisked me away to a place in the inner market serving that morning's catch before there was a long line. Superb.
I had a great early morning with Mariko in Tsukiji fish market. I didn´t not wanted to go tuna auction so we met at 0700. We went trough the market area and Tsukiji small temple. It was fun to ask about all the fish and food on sale. Mariko explained about everything. Had also very good small dishes during the tour. It was a rainy and a bit cold morning and Mariko asked what I wanted to eat for breakfast. I had a delicious pork ramen. Later afternoon had an excellent tempura meal at Ginza. All fresh, just picked up earlier by chef from Tsukiji. Thanks Mariko, had great morning with you :)
Thanks for the tour it was really worth it and its nice to meet new friends in Tokyo ^^
Had a great time at the tuna auction and the market afterwards. While Mariko couldn't make it, she was able to set me up with her friend Mizutani, aka "Guts". Very friendly and helpful, and spent time to show me around. Definitely recommended.
This worked out fine for me. I had one day wavailable to tour. I didn't want a long tour that had me making sushi, so this was perfect. Mariko was already booked that day, so Her friend Guts stepped in to help us both out. Gut's english was adequate, he brought a picture book to look over during our 2 hour wait to get in (you have to get there early.there are only so many people allowed in. I got there very early, and was still the third person in line. Guts came later, as he told me I could have done and was still in time to be part of the 1st group). It's a long wait to watch part of an auction, but the Market security limits where you can stand & how long you can stay in the area. After the auction, Guts took me around the market area, pointing out the shops, restaurants & shrine. He then bought a rolled egg omlette to try that was sweet and VERY TASTY!
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Mariko is a fantastic guide. Not only is she informative and helpful but she went above and beyond in providing a fantastic time at the tsukiji fish market. She also took me to enjoy dinner at a izakaya with her friend Gus and we had a great time. Mariko will help in any of your travel needs wherever possible and is happy to hear any of your thoughts and concerns about your trip and Japan. I highly recommend her! Thank you so much Mariko!
During my tour, Mariko brought her friend (Guts) along. She was accommodating and friendly, and the both of them made my trip to Tsukiji quite relaxed and informative. In my humble opinion, you could travel the markets on your own and learn just as much about it with some prior research. However, Mariko's guidance will make the trip alot more fun and interactive, especially if you are travelling alone. It felt like I was travelling with friends, and discovering the market together. It also helps that she speaks good English and can help in translation, should you need to ask any questions. Thank you Mariko for a wonderful time! :)
Mariko was a great guide, her English was very good and she had plenty to share on the fish market which made the experience that little bit more enjoyable. She was very accommodating and met me a little earlier than normal to ensure i did not miss out on the tuna auctions. Thanks again.
Though we did not meet Mariko because of a previous commitment, her arrangement to have the tour with her friend Guts was great! We had a wonderful time. We had been to Tsukiji Fish Market before, but it was a richer experience with Guts since he was able to explain more things to us. Also Mariko helped us by introducing us to another friend in Kumamoto, which was a huge help for another leg of our travels. Thanks for being a great resource for us in Japan!
We enjoyed touring the fish market with Mariko. She was fun, informative, and very helpful. We were excited to get into the auction. It was worrh getting up early to be there before 4 a. m.
Mariko was absolutely wonderful. You can tell she's been doing this for awhile because she came totally prepared with a full description of what we were going to see. Because this tour was very early in the morning she even made arrangements for a taxi to pick us up to make sure we got to the right gate. She was very personable and when I told her I wanted a great picture she moved us to the front of viewing area with such professionalism. Don't hesitant to take one of her tours.
Mariko was a great guide. She took us around the market and pointed out interesting stuff. We even visited two shrines and had a sushi breakfast with her. Thanks Mariko!
Mariko was out of town, so her friend Guts stepped in and did a fantastic job. We had a very early morning start to make it in to the tuna auctions, but the experience was well worth it. Mariko made sure everything was in order and arranged for our transportation to meet Guts at the market entrance. I recommend Mariko and Guts to any future market goers.
Mariko's Tsukiji tour was fantastic. We avoided the early morning auction but had a fantastic time learning about the market and sampling the variety of foods on offer. Mariko is friendly, speaks English well and was very accommodating to give advice on other activities. I look forward to the Izakaya tour she offers. HIGHLY recommended!
It was worth waking up early and see the Tuna Auction with Mariko. She explained the whole process to us. She and Guts also gave us a good tour around the Tsukiji Market and definitely made it one of the highlights of our trip.
Mariko is very good. Even though we couldn't see the fish auction in the early morning because they close for tourists due to the busy time, there are still a lot to see in Tsukiji market! In our trip, Marikl has brought her friend, Guts, to help guiding us in and out the market. My mom and I have a great time with them. I also learnt a lot about the Japanese ingredients used in cooking! Thank you very much, Mariko and Guts ^^ less than a minute ago
Had a great time in the Tsukiji fish market with Mariko! She is knowledgeable, professional and speaks English very well. I highly recommend her.
She made an interesting tour, She explained every thing what we want to know about Tsukiji Fish Market from history to how the auction start and process....thank you Mariko, you made my trip in Tokyo was wandeful :)
We took Mariko's Tsukiji Fish Market tour yesterday and we really had a great time! Mariko went way out of her way to pick us up when we had problems getting a cab and she was a perfect guide. She brought a book while we were waiting for the auction to start and explained the process. During the auction she translated what was happening and after she brought us all around the fish market to see the shrines, sellers, restaurants and sweet omelet makers (so good; she, of course, knew the best one!) We had some minced fish and shrimp "meatballs" on a stick from a street vendor ( super yummy!) and our children bought some sweets. It was such a great start to our trip. Mariko is thoughtful and easy to be around; we would recommend her without reservations.
Everyone who hv never gone to the fish market should DEFINITELY join Mariko's tour! She has explained the history and system of the market in a very detailed way! That's something you won't be able to listen to if you just go alone. Also, even she has been there for so many times, you won't feel that she feels bored. You know it can be a pressure if the guide looks bored..like pushing you to " walk fast, No question, and end soon" BUT she is not:) she is just very patient! Also the auction time is fun, the auctioneer shouted like singing..buyers have kind of gestures to express their preferences and you will be amazed at how fast the whole process has been done! Even you have no interest in the fish market, still RECOMMEND you to join Mariko's tour! Mariko is a super Disney lovers, following her to go to Disneyland will be a great chance as well! Mariko, thanks for giving me a great time:)
Mariko was a wonderful guide. I'm glad I made a friend for life.
Got to Tsukiji at 4am! Always wanted to see the tuna auction and was so happy to be able to cover Tsukiji with Mariko-san. She explained the auction, brought us around the markets and even bought us freshly made grilled egg from a stall whose relative is a popular comedian. Yummy ;). Do note to wear proper shoes as the tuna auction area can be a bit wet. The day we went, it rained a little so it was also a bit chilly.
Wow what a start of the day. I was very excited to see the auction and to meet Mariko. She was excellent in communicating before the actual date of the auction. And when the time was there she picked me up at the hotel. I was accompanied by a friend of Mariko. Which was great as he didn't see the auction process either. While waiting on the auction to begin, Mariko filled us in with the history and other information of Tsukiji. The auction itself went pretty quick. But one of the older Tsukiji market man (he'd been working there for 50 years) came over and explained even more how the system worked. After the auction we were showed around the outside market where the marketeers were setting up shop. We came across a shrine build for the market and finished at an omelet shop. I can definitely recommend Mariko's tour over the market. It was great fun and it gives you an early start of the day. Many thanks Mariko i really enjoyed it.
We had a very interesting tour with Mariko. She had the good idea to bring a book full of pictures of he fish market and she comment them while we wait for our turn to visit the market. It made the wait shorter. We could see he buyers do their estimation work before the tuna auction. After Mariko show us the shops and restaurants of the public area and the Nomi Yoke Shrin. She even make us taste the famous japanese omelette. She gave us the keys to understand how work this market. Many thanks to Mariko
Mariko was great! She gave me a history lesson on Tsukiji fish market which made me appreciate the place better. Also, she took me around the market place (both inner and outer) and introduced me the local produce. I had great time ... Thanks to Mariko, of course!!
What an experience! A job well done Mariko. We really learnt and enjoyed the Japanese hospitality the moment you fetched us from our hotel till you walked us to Marunouchi Line at Ginza Station. Your commitment and dedication to ensure that both my wife and I can have the best experience of the tour is commendable. Thank you.
Mariko is really amazing! She managed to explain me the market's history and customs before the auctions along with a great walk to interessnt spots of the market after. It was really cool to hear each place's background and Mariko was really kind. I can only recommend you to visit Tsukiji Fish market with her!!
Although we didn't managed to catch the auction, Mariko provided great insights to the fish market (auction & the trading businesses) and showed me around the inner and outer market. The informative tour ended with a delicious sushi meal at one of the more well known restaurants there. A very enjoyable morning!!!
Mariko is an excellent guide. I could not watch the auction without her help. The tuna auction is an extraordinary event that you can't miss. The food Mariko recommended is great, too. I tried the Japanese omelet in the morning and went to the Sushi bar in the evening. Both are very delicious!Thank you again, Mariko!
If you have more than 3 days in Japan, you should consider going to Tsukiji, with Mariko :) She put extra effort to make sure we can come inside the tuna auction since it's limited for 100/150 people per day (forgot the exact number). You can see the Tuna giants while hearing the auctioneers chanting in inaudible voice. And with Mariko you got more than visit to Tsukiji, it's fun to chat about Japanese culture - and I got to see the magic of car being unlocked simply by making a phone call :))Mariko also accompanied me to see the inner and outer market, also to a sushi temple! Actually it's called Namiyoke Temple near Tsukiji, but you can give a token of appreciation to egg & prawn that has nourish you. Thanks for your hospitality Mariko, it was a memorable trip, a trip with a new friend in Japan. Sayonara :D
Mariko is so amazing. She is absolutely fantastic. Mariko took me to the Tsukiji Fish Market to watch the early morning Tuna Auction. I stayed at a nearby Manga Cafe overnight (since we had to get there really early in the morning); she met up with me at 3:45am. She knew all about the auction. She had all the history and she was really fun to talk to. Afterwards she took me around the inter and outer markets. Mariko is wonderful - you should totally do her Tsukiji Fish Market tour!
